My name is Rebecca and I am a qualified and experienced languages teacher in secondary education. I hold an upper-class honours degree (2:1) in English Literature and French from the University of Birmingham, including a Distinction in spoken French, and qualifications in MFL Education to Masters level. I am friendly, hard-working and highly passionate about languages and hold expertise teaching French at KS3, GCSE and A level as well as Spanish to KS3.
I completed my teacher training with 'Outstanding' teaching, before working for three years as a Teacher of French and Spanish in two London schools. I then moved to Birmingham, where I continued to work as a passionate French/Spanish teacher before becoming Head of Languages. I also worked as a private languages tutor during this time. Whilst I now work as a Teacher of the Deaf, I continue to tutor French and Spanish currently.
As a result of my career, I have significant experience in private foreign language tutoring as well as an extensive knowledge of the national curriculum and examination requirements for French up to A-level and Spanish to KS3. I led a department in the new-style of GCSE specification, so I have an in-depth understanding of the most recent requirements for these new and more challenging examinations, making me highly suited to supporting secondary school students who are due to take their GCSEs in the coming years.
I believe that motivation, a sense of achievement and fun are essential to the successful learning of languages and I instil this into my teaching approach. I also work to adapt my teaching style and tailor lessons to suit the aims, needs and learning styles of my students. I have strong skills in the planning, organisation and delivery of language learning and am able to teach to prepare students for an examination, or simply to further a student's skills and passion for a language.
