I was a research scientist for ten years after gaining my Ph.D in 2002. I have been involved in research including studying protein dynamics and their influence on enzyme activity, protein chemistry, and studying proteins involved in pain perception. I have carried out research at the University of Birmingham, Cardiff University and Imperial College in London. I have many published papers, including studies into enzyme kinetics and mechanism.
I have been a personal tutor for over 15 years, teaching over 50 A-level Chemistry and Biology students.
While I was a researcher, I taught many students both lab skills and a deeper understanding of biochemistry, helping them gain their PhD.
I feel understanding a subject is better than just trying to memorise facts, so I concentrate on the fundamentals intensely. Only after a student thoroughly understands a subject do I move onto fact recall.
