I am a qualified primary school teacher with over 10 years of experience. I was a pracisiting classroom teacher up until April 2022 before switching career, and I am still providing tuition for children in the primary and secondary age range. I hold a Geography BSc from the University of Nottingham and completed a Primary PGCE at Nottingham Trent University in 2010. Having grown up in West Yorkshire, I have lived in Nottingham since 2006, I am married and we have a young child. I have a current valid enhanced DBS check.

Tutoring Experience

I taught in primary schools from 2010 onwards, and have tutored since 2016 (through First Tutors since 2018). In school, I have taught a range of Key Stage 2 classes in state and independent schools, including one of the leading selective academic schools in the region, as well as supply teaching in Secondary Schools with Year 7-11.

I have experience of tutoring children in preparation for entrance assessments at independent schools. I have a strong working knowledge of the 2014 National Curriculum for the Primary School age range including Reading, Writing, Grammar and Punctuation and Mathematics and I can help children pre[are for Year 6 SATs.

I have also worked with children who have a wide range of attainment and children with Special Educational Needs (SEN).

Tutoring Approach

I switched to online tutoring in 2020 and have continued thid since then. I use Zoom for sessions and will send out a link via email prior to the sessions. I am skilled and experienced with online teaching and I teach through screen sharing, using online resources to make sessions interactive and fun.

I will work with children and parents/carers to plan and teach sessions that will help children to make progress and enjoy their learning. My teaching philosophy is to be fun, fair and firm. I believe that children make the most progress when teaching is suited to their needs and so I will plan sessions based on targets set from assessments in initial sessions.

I can teach a range of Maths and English sessions or focus on specific areas. I can provide learning activities for sessions, or you can provide resources that you would like me to work through with your child.

I am happy to work with children from Year 3 to Year 6 (7-11 year olds) and I am currently free on Wednesday evenings (potentially also Monday or Tuesday evenings). I can provide resources for sessions or I am happy to work with resources provided by parents/carers.
