I had Richard as a tutor for A-level Psychology from 2023 to 2024, and he made a remarkable difference in my studies. When we started, my grades were mostly D's and E's, but thanks to Richard's hard work, passion, and balanced approach to tutoring, my performance improved significantly. He encouraged me to identify my weak points and provided valuable guidance on how to tackle questions, manage word counts, and refine my answers, offering honest feedback and additional support outside of our sessions. Richard's lessons were both engaging and informative, boosting my confidence and enthusiasm for the subject. His unique teaching style helped me achieve a BBB in my A-levels, a grade I never thought possible, and I'm now excited to study Psychology at the University of Westminster.

I was recommended to Richard from a close friend, following a long period where our teacher for research methods had been absent, causing us to fall behind in terms of covering content for the course. I started working with Richard in 2023 during the beginning of my year 13 and he was incredibly supportive from the outset. He quickly identified the gaps in my understanding from Year 12 and tailored the sessions to address these areas, as well as providing optional extra work that was manageable and not at all overwhelming.

Richard's engaging approach also made a significant difference; he used lots of practice questions and related course material to real-life experiences, which helped improve my exam technique but also deepened my understanding of psychology even beyond the course.

His friendly demeanor and dedication made learning such a large amount of content enjoyable and effective. Thanks to Richard's guidance, I achieved an A* in psychology and will continue to study Psychology at the University of Leeds in September (2024).

At the end of Year 12, last year, my son was very concerned about his Psychology A level and the implications for his university applications. He had achieved a poor mock exam result, and the support from school was not forthcoming as a result of a succession of unplanned teacher absences.
We reached out to Richard in the autumn term, and he was fantastic! He assessed our son's knowledge and helped identify and address areas of weakness. He helped rebuild our son's confidence, prepare him for his next mocks in November… and he made the learning process enjoyable!
As a result, our son's prediction improved from the grade D he achieved in the summer to a grade A.

My daughter has made excellent progress with Richard. He was able to pin point where she had been dropping marks and support her in honing her essay technique. She really enjoys time spent discussing psychology with Richard and actively looks forward to their sessions.

Richard made a really positive impact on Hugh’s performance. He helped Hugh move up a couple of grades to achieve his potential in his A-Levels. Richard is currently teaching my son (who is dyslexic and now being homeschooled) psychology GCSE. My son enjoys his lessons and is building a real passion for the subject. Richard has been very understanding of some of the challenges my son faces with processing complex information and is able to break it down to make it much more accessible for him. He is also very prompt with any communications and is always polite and very helpful.

I just started studying Psychology on my own but as I got closer to the exam, I started panicking and began to not enjoy the subject. We then found Richard and from my first lesson onwards I began to love Psychology! He opened it up in fascinating ways with illustrations and stories that kept me hooked! He would wander off on a tangent that would lead to a deeper knowledge of the topic and overflowed with so much insight that my note pad was stuffed from top to bottom and up and down the margins with notes! Whilst completing a distance learning Access to HE course, I began to struggle with the Psychology units as I had never touched on the subject previously. After signing up to FirstTutors, I got in touch with Richard and explained my situation to him. From our first conversation he put me at ease and ensured me that he would get me up to speed on the subject, even within the short amount of time I had left.

I had several lessons with Richard, both online and at his home. It was clear from the moment we first met he was a very intelligent man with a passion for teaching and Psychology (as well as other subjects). On a few occasions he went above and beyond to help me understand the subject. His enthusiasm, knowledge and teaching technique really helped me understand Psychology within a short period. And if I had not received such a high level of tutoring from Richard, I believe my grade could have fallen short of my conditional offer to become a Student Paramedic.

And above all else, Richard is a very genuine, friendly guy who I really enjoyed learning from.
