I am easy going, pragmatic,committed and encourage active and creative participation in my sessions both as a home based tutor and in my online sessions. I have coached and mentored individuals at all ages and acquired a wealth of real life teaching experience internationally; supporting individuals to develop their full potential and enable students to perform effectively : within new demanding environments when expectations increase. I have enjoyed working with students from Year 4 to Masters and PhD! My qualifications include a Masters Degree (MBA), and Teaching English (TEFL). My experience includes championing young entrepreneurs, change management in leaders and developing leadership skills, which includes Young Enterprise,Young Chamber, Young University Challenge as well as having managed an Innovation Centre for 4 years. During the holidays, I tutor 11plus booster sessions, English for international students and Masterclass for Y10/Y11students . I also tutor, mentor online and face to face whilst they are home-schooled, in part time education, and University or College. Helping all students prepare for their next education milestone and prepping for 11plus, GCSE , A Levels or a degree.

Tutoring Experience

Over 20 years coaching and tutoring in English (Language & Literature), Science, Maths, Business Studies and Finance. In the last 12 years I have dedicated my time to the preparation of 11plus, KS3 and KS4 students for the increasing demanding standards for GCSE and A levels. I help students develop first principles, methods and skills to go beyond the explicit (what is being said) to explore and interpret (infer) the deeper meaning. Furthermore, in all subjects, students are expected to structure and organise their ideas more effectively applying the techniques they have developed from within the English Language subject with an expanded (more sophisticated) vocabulary.It is always a pleasure to watch students surprise themselves with their new world of understanding opened by their own capability.
I have considerable experience in programmes that seek to build personal confidence and learning skills that are needed in exams but also in their future. I am trained in process psychology and change management to enable individuals to respond more effectively to their increasing responsibilities, coping with new and demanding requirements in their changing world. I have been a private tutor for 18 years and have been active in local and international Young Peoples Enterprise and Leadership initiatives such as Young Enterprise. Young Chamber, Work Experience, Internships and International Entrepreneurship/Student programmes. Previously both a Governor of a large Secondary Specialist School and a Director in the development of a multi-school academy.

Tutoring Approach

I have an open,friendly consultative style, I adopt a practical easy approach, helping you learn from first principles, this means that whatever the problem, the solution/answer can be worked out by yourself independently using a framework that is generally much easier to remember. I use a combination of approaches and techniques including media, visual tools to enhance learning, improve comprehension and support your revision. In my experience as you learn that there are different ways to learn and the methods and techniques that work best for you (we all learn differently) this knowledge boosts your self confidence and coupled with the learning and study techniques your results improve, After an initial introductory, session which gives us the opportunity to meet each other, discuss your needs and then agree a lesson framework, frequency and which days will work best.
