I am an enthusiastic scientist and teacher who believes that we are all capable of much more than we can even imagine. I have taught at an outstanding inner-city school in Bristol for the past four years and I am looking forward to sharing my love of science and learning with a wider audience. I love being in the outdoors and have led a number of expeditions for students from my school.
For the past four years I have taught in an outstanding Bristol state school. I have gained experience of teaching high ability A level Chemistry students who have exceeded their targets. Five of my students have secured places at Oxbridge universities. I have taught over a hundred students the new GCSE Science curriculum. These GCSE classes have included high ability students with targets of eight or nine and also students with targets of three or four who have gone on to surpass their targets.
I trained in a school where students had low aspirations and have developed techniques for raising student's belief in their abilities and their achievement.
I have completed research projects at Spanish and English universities and published results in leading chemical journals.
I gained experience of the chemical industry working at Maybridge and Tocris Biosciences where I managed medicinal chemistry projects and had the opportunity to use state of the art analytical equipment.
I have tutored GCSE and A-level students on a 1-1 basis. They have gone on to get the highest of grades and show good value added.
I use my hands on experience of being a practising scientist to bring science and chemistry alive for my students. I understand that for most students scientific concepts only become interesting when they are applied, so I endeavour to frame new ideas with real life applications.
Every student's learning style and aptitudes are different so I tailor the learning experience to each student. I use assessment for learning strategies to inform my planning and progress in lessons, so that I can give students a sense of achievement in each lesson and also stretch their understanding.
I have developed a range of learning resources and use past exam questions of varying difficulties to improve progress.
