Hi, my name is Rose.
I am an English teacher currently available for in person and online lessons. I have a BA English (first class with honours) from the University of Birmingham, and a PGCE-PCET from the University of East London. I am an extremely professional, friendly and reliable person with experience tutoring many levels and ages, online and offline. I hold an up to date enhanced DBS certificate. I am an avid reader and enjoy trips to the cinema, when I am not lesson planning!
I have loved teaching English in the classroom, from Entry level to GCSE. I have tutored English language and literature at Key Stage 2 (ages 7-11), Key Stage 3 (ages 11-14) and Key Stage 4 (ages 14-16), preparing students for specific exams such as SATs, Functional Skills and GCSE, whilst also improving their everyday use of English.
I have also worked with Key Stage 1 children in educational reading and literacy programmes. I have extensive knowledge of Functional Skills, GCSE, and A-level curricula, and experience with online tutoring. I am qualified as a Further Education English teacher, so also have experience teaching Functional Skills Level 1 and 2, and GCSE English language to adult learners with impressive results.
I am passionate about English, and love helping both children and adults improve their English skills and confidence with the subject. I aim for my lessons to be fun, engaging and task oriented.
I will assess your current abilities, strengths and areas for development to create a tailored learning programme, aiming to help you achieve your personal goals in English. I adapt my approach for any additional learning needs that learners may need support with. I have knowledge of dyslexia, having completed research in this area for both children and adults, and have tutored children with dyslexia, helping them to achieve their reading, writing and spelling goals.
I also have extensive experience teaching EAL (English as an additional language) learners in the classroom and am able to make English an approachable and enjoyable subject for all.
