Hello my name is Rosie, I have a degree in English Literature and Language from St Peter's College, Oxford University and have just completed my second degree, a Two Year Acting Degree at LAMDA.
I am comfortable teaching all areas of English Literature, History, Philosophy and Theatre Studies up to A Level standard and have always had good results with students I have tutored. At Oxford I covered all periods of English Literature from 1100 to the present. If it is of interest, my two specialist papers were Tennyson and versions of 'Measure for Measure' from 1604-1700.
The work I have done with my tutees has varied widely. With many students my teaching has remained focused on set texts and the exam syllabus. For some, who have wished to explore beyond these, I have enjoyed suggesting and working through texts for further study. The latter has most often been the case when students have been considering the subjects for higher study. When higher study in the subjects I am tutoring in is sought I have also looked at personal statements and coached students for entrance exams.
I have also tutored two students for their Oxford interviews and entrance exams and both have gained their respective places.
Prior to and alongside academic tutoring I have led numerous Theatre Workshops. These have brought me into contact with a wide variety of young people and enabled me to explore different methods of teaching.
I have always had a passion for teaching. At the moment I have four tutees whose ages range from 13 to 21 years. I have also worked as a tutor in a charity organization set up by Oxford Students.
Oxford University has taught me the value of private tuition and the benefit it can have for a student. My approach to tutoring is one which enables the tutee to improve not only their academic achievement but also their ability to recognize, for themselves, where and how their own work can be improved. This method results in a quicker and more thorough improvement not only in the subject they are being tutored in, but also in their ability to learn across all subjects.
