I love teaching and my passion and genuine enthusiasm for the subjects I teach and for learning in general are frequently commented on by students and colleagues. I believe that education is the vehicle that will take you where you want to go in life, and it is my privilege to help and support students who value their education. You will find my lessons to be engaging, informative and valuable and will help you to master difficult subject matter and develop learning habits and skills which will serve you well as you continue with your learning.
My sessions are £50 per hour, but I do apply a 10% discount for block bookings of 5 sessions (£225 for 5 sessions) paid in advance.
I am a highly experienced teacher and curriculum leader, with more than a decade of classroom and private tutoring experience. I have worked with students of all abilities in my career and have taught a variety of different subjects and specifications. I have been tutoring privately alongside my teaching career since 2013. After more than a decade in the same school, and holding a variety of roles throughout that time, I decided to focus on my tuition business. I have been working exclusively as a private tutor since August 2024.
I have wide ranging knowledge of history, but I have most experience on the history of medicine, Cold War and Superpower relations, Weimar and Nazi Germany, Henry VIII and his Ministers and Elizabeth I on the Edexcel GCSE specification. At A Level I have taught the history of Russia, British history in 19th century, the British experience of Warfare, Germany 1871-1990, the Italian Unification and Communist States also with Edexcel. I have experience of tutoring clients privately on the AQA specification at both GCSE and A Level.

I believe education is the vehicle that drives positive change in people's lives. It is not just about getting the best grades, although that may be the aim for some. High quality teaching and learning is best achieved through establishing a good working relationship between teacher and learner, and that is something I like to do with my clients, so I can best understand their needs and help them learn and achieve their goals.
My lessons therefore aim to inspire a love of learning as well as being a useful support for a student preparing for exams. My lessons aim to develop student subject knowledge, exam technique skills, critical thinking and growth mindset through a variety of approaches honed over a decade in the classroom and tutoring privately, working with a broad range of mixed ability pupils. My sessions don't only improve student's knowledge and skills, they also help boost their confidence and develop a positive, proactive mindset towards their studies as I provide tips and hacks to become a better student of history, structure your revision and extra resources to supplement our tutorials.
I tailor all lessons to the needs of each and every student. The content and activities will vary depending upon the requirements of the learner and the subject and level of qualification. Generally speaking my lessons are 1 hour long and are structured with a review of prior learning before introducing the enquiry question under consideration in that lesson. New content will be analysed and discussed and then applied through deliberate practice. The lesson closes with a final review of the learning from that lesson and some feedback.
