I am an experienced, passionate and successful sociology teacher.
I currently teach at a large secondary school in North Leeds and was Curriculum Team Leader/Head of Department there for 14 years until my recent semi-retirement.
I have 31 years experience of teaching sociology at both A-level and GCSE in London and Leeds. As well as extensive classroom teaching experience, I have tutored online since 2020/2021.
I have excellent subject knowledge (with a focus on the AQA specifications at GCSE and A-level) and combine this with an ability to break sociology down into manageable and accessible ideas. I also place great emphasis on the skills needed for success in sociology, such as essay writing and answering shorter mark questions.
I have a passion for sociology and always aim to engage students by making sociology relevant to their own life experiences where possible. Not surprisingly, an interested student learns more effectively and makes greater progress. I use a variety of teaching techniques and resources designed to meet the needs of a range of learners. Depending on the specific needs of a student, a typical lesson may involve an explanation and interactive discussion of key sociological concepts/theories, or may involve a step by step break down of an exam question. Model answers (for short questions and essays) are regularly used to demonstrate key skills needed for exam success.
