I am a current Head of English in a thriving Independent school and have taught Secondary pupils (aged 11-18) for 23 years. I adore my subject, and love to share my enthusiasm and enjoyment of English with my pupils. I have two children of my own who are currently studying for A-Level and GCSE examinations, and so I understand the pressures that pupils face not only as a teacher, but as a parent too.
I have been an examiner for AQA and OCR and specialise in preparing pupils for examinations.
I am a highly experienced teacher and have taught in both Independent and State schools. I tailor lessons to suit individual needs and have a great deal of experience working with pupils who have learning differences, especially Dyslexia, ADHD and Autism. I have been an examiner at both GCSE and A-Level and have excellent knowledge of a range of exam boards and their requirements. My expertise is in exam preparation, and my results are outstanding. Pupils under my care achieve and often surpass their target grades.
I enjoy building pupil confidence and seeing each child fulfilling their potential. I encourage discussion, and teach pupils strategies that they can use to respond to texts successfully. Pupils often know more than they think they do, and I enjoy seeing the progress that can be made in 1:1 or small group sessions. Each lesson is tailored to needs of the individual. I use quality resources and give written feedback. I use practice papers and mark schemes to ensure pupils are fully prepared for their examinations.
