My name is Ruth and I've been teaching for 24 years. I have taught Years 1 and 3 in primary schools in this country, but have also spent 12 years (on and off) teaching overseas in West Africa at an international school, where a number of our students had little to no English. I love teaching, and seeing minds grow and develop. I love reading, being outside in the countryside and eating with friends.
I am a trained Key Stage 1 Primary Teacher, but I have a lot of experience of a number of different age groups, having taught from Year 1 up to Year 11 at an international school in West Africa. I also have plenty of experience of teaching children with little, or no English. I've taught all curriculum subjects up to Year 4, and from Year 5 upwards, I have experience of teaching English (English Language at GCSE), English Literature, History and French. I also was the school principal for three years at the international school.
I always try to make my lessons interactive and involving. I don't like to just talk and expect students to take notes from what I say. I'm aware that we all learn in different ways, so try to use different approaches to aid learning, not just visual and auditory. I have found that students tend to remember things better when they have been more involved in their own learning.
