I am a qualified primary teacher working in an Aberdeen primary school. I can offer teaching and support to your child with regard to their reading, spelling, writing (including handwriting) and Numeracy. I also can offer support on a health and wellbeing basis and help your child with big feelings, behaviours and worries and provide strategies to parents support your child at home with their behaviour and emotions. (This can involve working with your child individually but also working with you and your child).
Friends/ colleagues would describe me as kind, calm and nurturing teacher.
I have worked with children between the ages of 4.5-11 years at primary school.
I enjoy learning and have completed many professional development courses throughout my career. Some of these include courses in areas such as Dyslexia and Autism, which have allowed me to learn how to be flexible and adapt my teaching to support the needs of every individual learner, considering their barriers to learning. All of my lessons are dyslexia friendly and include use of dyslexia friendly fonts and colours, visual aids etc which supports all children, regardless of learning barriers.
I have also completed professional development within many areas of health and wellbeing including mindfulness for children and teaching emotional literacy.
The heart of my teaching ethos would without a doubt be nurture. I am a warm, caring, supportive teacher who will get to know your child, their individual learning needs and tailor learning accordingly. My lessons are fun and engaging and I will base these on your child’s own learning styles as well as their interests.
In order to best support your child, I would discuss with you what goals you wish your child to achieve / be supported with. I would assess your child to identify where they are at with their learning and in order to tailor my teaching to support any gaps they may have.
Alongside this I would of course ensure to get to know your child, and build a positive relationship where they feel safe, comfortable and happy with their learning sessions.
