Ruth

I recently graduated with a 2.1 in Education Studies and Spanish at the University of Chester. I have now moved back home to Shropshire and am working in a local secondary school as a Teaching Assistant. I have a love for Mathematics and Spanish. I help out and assist students in the Maths department across both key stage 3 and 4. Moving forward, I would like to do my masters in children and young people's mental health, working towards a career as an Educational Mental Heath practitioner.

Tutoring Experience

I have worked with children and young people in various roles. As part of my university degree, I did a placement year in southern Spain teaching English in a primary school. This was such a life-changing experience where I met so many amazing people and learned so much about myself. I have also worked with the Outreach team as an advocate, promoting university life to students navigating their next steps. This involved workshops and experience days with local schools in the Cheshire and North Wales area. I also worked as a student ambassador, showing around prospective students and giving accommodation tours, Q&A's on student life etc. My most recent experience is working as a Teaching Assistant in a state secondary school supporting SEN kids. Their needs include things like autism, dyslexia, dyscalculia as well as social and emotional issues, especially where some students struggle with self confidence and academic performance levels.

Tutoring Approach

I currently don't have a PGCE or QTS, however I am very much interested in working with children and young people to make a difference to their lives and education. I believe everyone has the right to a good education where they can thrive and achieve their dreams. School doesn't come easy to everyone, and I am aware there is a lot of pressure on academics these days. My aim is to help students reach their targets and beyond, helping them believe in themselves that they can do well academically.
