Sam

I am a doctor and teaching fellow working for Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. I have with a real passion and energy for teaching and mentoring, with over 10 years of experience. I enjoy giving students the opportunity to learn how to combine practical and theoretical concepts, and my particular strength is being able to teach students of all ages at various levels. I have also gained vast amounts of exposure to undergraduate level teaching in my professional role, including simulation, clinical and non-technical skills. Having personally acheived A*AA in Mathematics, Biology & Chemistry at A Level, a 2.1 in Biochemistry from the University of Nottingham and MBBCh medical degree from Swansea University, I have a deep-rooted scientific knowledge base built through working with people from diverse backgrounds. This makes it easier to establish sustainable relations with clients and build confidence in their subject of choice.

Tutoring Experience

I have been tutoring & mentoring for over 10 years, with experience teaching Mathematics (up to GCSE), Biology & Chemistry (up to A-Level & Year 1 undergraduate level) and currently hold a Clinical Teaching Fellow role in Surgery. This involves teaching Cambridge medical students various surgical concepts while on their surgical attachment in Bedford Hospital. I also have a pastoral role for newer foundation doctors and extensive involvement in audits and quality improvement projects.

Tutoring Approach

My friendly and personable nature makes it incredibly easy for me to engage and communicate with others, along with my drive, passion and determination to teach and pass on knowledge in a sustainable way. I enjoy giving students the tools to problem solve and encouraging them as they slowly (but surely!) improve. I find that confidence is one of the key things to tackle, as well as making concepts more practical so they can be understood easier.
