Online Maths and Physics Lessons

I am a research scientist at the University of Leeds, with experience in neuro and cardiac MRI. I am currently working in medical engineering. I have a PhD in MRI physics from the University of Glasgow and a BSc First class Honours Physics degree from the University of Aberdeen.

I enjoy reading, going to the gym and walking my dogs.

Although I am based in Leeds I am originally from Scotland and I focus on tutoring the Scottish curriculum. I am currently tutoring online using zoom and materials and homework are provided using google drive. My setup means the pupil can see me explaining questions and we can discuss questions they are doing. My focus this year is on Nat 5 and higher maths and I can offer tutoring for both of these.

I can offer time on a Wednesday and Thursday evening to work around my other tutoring commitments and can be flexible occasionally if need be.

I am very patient and friendly and will strive to help your child progress as much as I can. I really enjoy tutoring and it is very rewarding to see a student who was struggling before doing really well.

Tutoring Experience

I have tutored multiple students in Nat 5 and higher physics and maths for the past 6 academic years helping them to pass their exams.
I have also helped prepare students for the American SAT test.
I have tutored both in person and using Skype and will be using skype in all sessions going forward because of location and covid.
I have been a lab demonstrator at the University of Glasgow for 2 different Physics labs which involves helping the students with their experiments and explaining concepts, equations and practical parts of the experiment.
I have experience in teaching other students difficult maths and physics techniques.
I have a level 3 coaching qualification for trampolining and from this have experience working with children and adults with learning and physical disabilities.

Tutoring Approach

I will adapt my approach to each student to help them get the most out of tutoring. I will engage each student as much as possible and motivate them to do the best they can.

I would like the students to bring the problems they have to me, and we can work together to improve on them. I see the lessons as tutorial based, working on the topic they need, and I will be providing questions for them to try with a small amount of homework each week, to check they understand the concepts.

I like to work using a mixture of book based questions and past paper questions. As we get closer to exam time, we will study more past paper questions and the student may have a past paper to complete each week. I will provide both recent and older past papers to help further their studies and improve their problem solving skills.
