Having completed my GCSEs and A-Levels at a state grammar school and achieved one of the highest sets of grades in my year, I am currently in my third year of medical degree at the University of Birmingham. With my high-achieving academic record, my strength lies in teaching other students how to excel at exams and realise their full potential.
Throughout my A-Levels, I mentored students both within and outside of my school in various subjects such as the sciences, English and Mathematics, helping them to understand difficult concepts and to refine their exam technique to ensure the gain the maximum marks in their exams. My success in this has been demonstrated through the fact that all of my students improved by atleast 1-2 grades and achieved their target grades. Additionally, I was also senior chemistry prefect at my sixth form and led the initiative to create a science mentoring programme, helping those who needed extra time outside of lessons to further reinforce their understanding of topics. Thus, I have gained a lot of experience of planning and teaching lessons which focus on understanding material as well as reinforcing key exam skills and techniques.
My approach is that I initially like to see the current progress of the student and assess any weaknesses and strengths. Based on this assessment, I create a tailored plan which suits their way of learning and tackles their weaknesses whilst reinforcing exam technique. My sessions include teaching material and key concepts, answering topic-specific questions you consolidate understanding and then finally assessing progress using timed practise papers. I make sure to constantly monitor the progress of my students through assessments in order to ensure improvement.
