Maths and German Teacher in St. Andrews

Having just completed my A Level examinations last Summer, I have up to date, first hand experience of the current syllabuses in specifically A Levels and GCSEs. For my A Levels I studied Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Geography and German, and have since gone to study Geography and Sustainable Development at St Andrews University. I offer my tutoring services in Mathematics, Geography and German which I thoroughly enjoyed during my time at school, and hence wish to help and support any students in these fields.

Tutoring Experience

My main bulk of teaching experience comes from my role as a class assistant at my local Kumon branch. This involved giving support to the students with their Maths and English work on a weekly basis. The work consisted of the Kumon worksheets at a range of different levels, and it was my responsibility to give tips, tricks and feedback to the students as to where they could further enhance their performances as well as supporting with any corrections or misunderstandings in their work.

Tutoring Approach

To begin a tutoring session I like to start with a starter question to get the student's mind focused and tuned to the session. This could either be a revision of a previous topic covered or a small challenge to assess a new topic. Thereafter the main bulk of the lesson would involve tackling different exercises and questions together, and giving constant feedback and advice to the student as we go along. This constant 1 to 1 attention and support allows for personalised feedback and the most constructive use of the students' time. Finally towards the end of the session the student would attempt an exam question independently. Once completed the student takes a photograph of the question and would email it across to me, which I would evaluate, mark and prepare some tailored feedback, ready to share for the start of the next session.
During the class if the student has any other difficulties with any school related or other work, I am happy to answer these queries and assist them with these questions as well.
