Maths and English Teacher in Exeter

Highly experienced, fully qualified Primary School Tutor. 20+ years experience including Head of Lower School in a prestigious Chelsea school rated excellent. 7+ 11+ exam prep, catch up, phonics, reading, writing, spelling, maths and general homework help.

Tutoring Experience

I have extensive experience in a range of schools, both Private and State in the UK. I have held numerous leadership roles throughout my career and have tutored children from around the world.

I became a primary teacher after completing my Bachelors of Education teaching degree with Honours. Following this, I enjoyed a number of years teaching in different schools in Devon and London. Whilst teaching in a highly regarded private school in London, I was made Head of Lower School and Safeguarding Lead. It was during this post that I learnt the importance of individual learning, including preparing children for the Entrance Exams and tutoring to help fill knowledge gaps and understanding. I moved back to my home county of Devon in 2019 and in 2021, after finishing a Senior Leadership Teaching post in a local primary school, I took a career break to have a family. It was during this time I began tutoring as a way of maintaining my teaching skills and continue my love of learning. I saw children’s confidence soar as they made connections in their learning and realised how important "Creating Confidence in Learning" is for children's development. Then Covid hit, and the gaps within children’s learning widened due to missed learning opportunities. The need for targeted tutoring to help children build back their understanding and ‘keep up’ with the curriculum became important. Through word of mouth, I quickly became quite busy and it was from there that World Stars Tutoring was established. It has quickly gone from strength to strength!

Tutoring Approach

I am a fully qualified Primary School Teacher (with Honours) with extensive experience.

My philosophy is embedded in valuing children to reach their full potential. To do this, they need to feel empowered to explore, ask questions and learn in a safe and secure environment. Children thrive with my in person and online interactive lessons, where they are able to feel comfortable in a dedicated learning space in my home or in their safe space at home.

I support children in reading, writing, phonics, maths and homework with purposeful, engaging, interactive online activities.

I also tutor for the 7+ and 11+ entrance exams. Through my experience teaching in private education, I have taught numerous children in school and through private tutoring who have gone on to gain placed in their top selective schools.

For younger children, I provide 2x 30 minute sessions rather than a full hour in one go. This ensures that the child is able to remain focussed, energised and successful in their lesson time.
