I have an enthusiasm for teaching and enjoy the company of children and young people. I have brought up three sons of my own, all of whom are now independent, and have always enjoyed the input I was able to make to their education. I am a very patient person and relish the chance to further knowledge and achievement, helping the individual to achieve their potential.
In addition to private tuition work, I have also taught in various subjects and at various levels in a number of schools. I have been Head Teacher of a small preparatory school where I was also Special Needs co-ordinator which means that I have a good understanding of how to tailor lessons to the specific needs of individual children. I have recently been teaching GCSE English and have also taught French at Secondary level. Latin is also a subject in which I have gained a large amount of teaching experience. I have recently worked as a Freelance Tutor on a one to one basis with de-motivated pupils in local state secondary schools. I have experience of both state and independent sectors and can help with admissions at 7+, 11+ and 13+.
I have often been told that I am extremely calm and patient. I feel that it is important to take time to ensure understanding and that a child should gain in confidence throughout teaching. I enjoy finding different and appropriate strategies to enable learning in individual children. I believe that praise is one of the best tools of my trade. Above all, I enjoy the company of children and the challenge and responsibility of teaching them.
