I have been Head of French and MFL at an 11-18 independent school in Hampshire since 2007, and I love sharing my passion for languages with the students that I teach. I studied French and German at Cambridge University, I have lived and worked in France and Germany, and I am fluent in French, having spent most of my holidays in Normandy where my family was fortunate to own a house for many years and where we became part of a close-knit community which we still consider to be home.
I have extensive experience of teaching French and German to GCSE and A Level. I have been Head of French and MFL since 2007, and before then I taught French and German to A Level at Aylesbury High School and St Crispin's School, Wokingham. Inevitably an important part of my job is supporting or extending pupils 1-1 or in smaller groups beyond lesson time, and so tutoring and tailoring sessions to individual needs has been an integral part of my teaching career.
I am a creative, professional teacher, and through my many years of developing best educational practice I have a wide repertoire of strategies to motivate young learners, using games and interactive activities, of course, but more importantly by tapping into how a person thinks and learns, and by challenging and motivating them to think differently when things have become a little ‘stuck’. I always have the pupils’ learning needs at the centre of my approach to teaching, and I work hard to give each individual the techniques and strategies that they need to succeed.
