I'm Sarah, married with two daughters who are now young adults. I'm a qualified teacher with a huge love of maths, but a real understanding of how pupils can find it a daunting subject at times. I taught in school for a good few years until private maths and music teaching took over!
I taught as a primary and middle school teacher for many years. I've tutored maths privately for a long time, from five year olds right through to A level. In recent years I've helped many students through their GCSE maths, both those who are aiming and struggling to pass and those who need the highest grades. I’ve had many students who are predicted a Grade 2 or 3 at GCSE gain their 4 or 5 with me and those who are hoping to go on to A level to achieve the highest grades to do so.
In recent years, with the syllabus change, I have retaken my maths and further maths A Levels as a way of keeping right up to date with syllabus changes and am currently undertaking further postgraduate study in maths and statistics. I am constantly looking to update and stretch my maths knowledge as much as possible.
I usually teach at my house but am sometimes able to visit pupils in the local area dependent on times. I strive to make maths enjoyable and to take any scariness out of the subject. I try to impart a 'have a go' attitude to pupils and build their confidence in maths. I like to think I am friendly and approachable. I realise that pupils have all kinds of aims and abilities when coming for tutoring and try to cater for each individual.
I can devise and teach a whole maths curriculum for home educated pupils and have extensive experience of working within the home education community.
