Having grown up in London and spent much of my life in Kent and Sussex I have now relocated to Scotland. As I had built up an extensive knowledge of A Level Politics, I wished to continue teaching it, so I decided to tutor online. As a teacher I consider it important to continue to learn myself, to put myself in the perspective of a student, and am currently studying Theology modules online at the University of Aberdeen.
I have over two decades of experience teaching in England and Scotland. I have taught A Level Politics since 2004. I have been the head of a highly successful Politics department. Since relocating to Scotland I have taught Higher Politics and Modern Studies. I have been tutoring online for 5 years.
Teaching isn't just about knowing the subjects and what it takes to meet their exam requirements, it is about getting to know your learners, listening to their needs and matching one's teaching to what they require. I find the subjects I teach fascinating and aim to fire up similar enthusiasm in my tutees.
I find it easy to build a good rapport with students and get them to think outside the box. I understand how to break down subjects to aid understanding and learning for those who find them difficult, but also offer further reading options to stretch and challenge students striving for the highest grades in exams. One to one offers far more opportunity for me to tailor tutees learning experience so that they can be confident in their understanding.
I am also happy to help with improving essays, working on technique and providing constructive feedback.
