Economics Tuition in Olney

After leaving the LSE in 1976 I worked as a professional economist for 20 years specialising in the area of food and farming. During that period I worked closely with government departments, what is now the European Union and the GATT now the World Trade Organisation. In addition to advising on policies I also built up an expertise in forecasting and modelling using econometric techniques.

Tutoring Experience

In 1995 I joined the Cranfield School of Management as a senior lecturer in business economics. I was responsible for the Industrial Organisation and Strategy module on the MBA programme, a series of lectured that were published by McGraw-Hill in a book entitled the Economics of Organisations and Strategy. I became Director of the MBA programme, a role that oversaw the structure and teaching on the MBA Programme. I also taught a number of electives, including one on Pricing and another on the Economics of the EU. I retired from Cranfield in 2012 to run my own consultancy, where inter alia, I have continued as a visiting lecturer in economics at Cranfield, Cambridge, Imperial and Buckingham universities.

Tutoring Approach

My experience of teaching has consisted of formal lectures and tutorials. As a professional economist I spent many hours explaining to non-economists basic concepts and from my years of experience I have honed these skills. In particular, I am patient, happy to repeat and guide until students have a full understanding and am delighted to answer queries and discuss with students matters that they find interesting or difficult. I have a particular interest in helping students with diagrams - an important feature of economic courses and exams - and I can also accommodate students who have a mathematically background and are comfortable with basic calculus.
