Tutoring Approach

Learning and development will be tailored according to individual needs. For example, if a parent wants to get their child into a grammar or private school, our lessons will be devised and planned according to the selection test specifications. If a school’s exam board is its own, we will work towards achieving top marks in those exams by focusing on the school's specific exam questions and requirements. Alternatively, we will work towards those targets, whether CEM, GL or ISEB. If an interview is part of the entrance examination, we will also prepare for this together.

Lessons will take place over Zoom, allowing students to work in their comfort zone with minimal distractions. All that is required is a good internet connection, energy, optimism and the drive to succeed. Ah, not to forget to mention - a pen + paper too (for individual note-taking)! :)

► How will we unlock potential? ◄

I focus my lessons on the exam requirements, board, curriculum, past examinations, and individual needs. Whether using literary devices or improving creative writing potential, I’ve got the answers and solutions.

It’s important to understand that increasing your child’s confidence will be my top priority, as this is vital in getting the best grades. For this reason, our lessons will take place with a compassionate approach to learning and development, ensuring that your child feels encouraged at all stages.

The process is simple and is outlined below:

1. You message me with further information – aims, goals and targets, strengths and weaknesses, focus points, and availability.

2. We will arrange a free* introductory meeting over Zoom lasting 15-30 minutes to discuss the matter further and sort out the study schedules. In this meeting, I need to get to know your child and grasp your child’s comprehensive ability and what they’re currently reading at school, so bringing a book along will be beneficial. Alternatively, if studying History, please come with your study guide. We will use the same book for the later stages. For example, if the student is studying 'Of Mice and Men' at GCSE, we will use this book to guide learning. In this meeting, it is also crucial for me to understand you as a parent and what you want to gain out of the lessons.

3. I will then prepare specific questions and send these over with selective past paper questions for your child to complete.

4. We go over the answers in-depth and devise an action plan moving forward.

5. We continue our weekly lessons focusing on our tailored plan and primary target(s). If you’re trying to pass your exams, we will use our time to focus in detail on what you’re learning at school and reviewing past examination papers.

✰✰ All students will receive a copy of the lesson notes for future reference ✰✰

After each lesson, I aim to provide at least one homework task relating to the topic which will be due the next lesson. Feedback on the homework may be provided in writing or after the end of the next lesson.

Note, it is of utmost importance that all homework is completed upon receipt as it is almost always material that can be used for revision (for upcoming exams). This is especially important when it comes to students revising for exams and requiring useful, condensed revision notes as refreshments. It is also important to note for any parent or student looking for tuition to begin tuition as early in the year as possible for the best chances of success.

Bi-monthly written feedback + monthly meetings, alongside written progress reports will allow us to discuss anything required to assist the student(s) further.
Consultations are free and will cost nothing but your time invested in your child's future.

Note:
If a lesson needs to be cancelled or rescheduled, this should be done in writing no later than 24 hours before the scheduled lesson.
Upon receipt of successful payment, bookings are confirmed no later than 24 hours before the scheduled lesson.
