Maths and English Lessons in Chesterfield

I am an experienced and dedicated educator with over five years of expertise in working with children and teaching. I graduated with First Class Honours in Psychology (BSc) from King’s College London. My journey in education began during my A-levels, where I privately tutored students preparing for entrance exams to grammar and independent schools, as well as GCSE students.

Between 2021 and 2023, I successfully ran a tutoring centre in London, helping numerous students achieve their academic goals. Since transitioning into a teaching role, I have continued tutoring, as it remains both a passion and a rewarding endeavour for me. My students consistently achieve exceptional results, with many improving by at least two grades in a short period. I have had the privilege of guiding some students from Year 7 through to their GCSEs, fostering their growth and academic confidence.

I am now delighted to offer face-to-face tutoring sessions once again, bringing my personalised approach and proven track record of success to more students.

Tutoring Experience

Between 2021 and 2023, I successfully ran a tutoring centre in London, where I oversaw the delivery of English, Maths, and Science lessons to over 150 students. This experience allowed me to support learners across a wide range of ages and abilities, fostering a deep understanding of individualised teaching approaches.

In addition to my tutoring, I have worked in both mainstream and SEN (Special Educational Needs) schools, equipping me with valuable experience in catering to the diverse needs and abilities of my students. Whether working with high-achieving pupils, those requiring additional support, or those with specific learning needs, I tailor my approach to ensure every child is engaged, challenged, and supported in their learning journey.

Tutoring Approach

My teaching approach is rooted in tailoring lessons to each student’s individual needs while focusing on practical and effective methods to maximise their academic success. When tutoring, especially for GCSEs and SATs, I rely heavily on the use of past papers. This approach not only familiarises students with the format and style of exam questions but also helps them develop essential exam techniques and time-management skills.

I begin by identifying the student’s strengths and areas for improvement through targeted assessments and discussions. From there, I design lessons that focus on building a strong foundation in the subject matter, followed by regular practice with past papers to consolidate their understanding and build confidence.

Working through past papers allows me to highlight patterns in question types and common pitfalls, ensuring students are well-prepared for every aspect of the exam. I also emphasise active learning, encouraging students to reflect on their answers and learn from any mistakes, which fosters resilience and critical thinking.

Beyond academic skills, I prioritise creating a supportive and motivating environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and expressing their concerns. My ultimate goal is to not only help them achieve excellent results but also to instil a sense of self-belief and a love of learning that extends beyond exams.
