Online Physics and Chemistry Tuition

My teaching style has been said to be quite motivational by my students, and by other teachers observing my lessons. I have a strict, yet “go get it” attitude, intertwined with humour, hard-work and building good rapport between one-another. I have a wide ranging and in-depth subject-knowledge within Biology and Psychology, which I teach up to undergraduate level, and also a strong knowledge in teaching and assessments within Chemistry and Physics up to GCSE level (age 16).

Tutoring Experience

I have teaching experience in GCSE Science and A-level Biology and Psychology preparation and assessments. A wide-range of undergrad Biology and Psychology subjects, Statistics and SPSS use in Psychology, Academic mentoring (organisational skills, time-management, etc.), SEN students (literacy, mathematics included), Essay/Report writing skills, Study skills, and Relaxing techniques for stressed/anxious students.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • 2019 - 2017 - MSc Psychology, University of East London
  • 2017 - 2015 - High School & College Biology teacher, Reepham High School and College, Norfolk
  • 2015 - 2014 - PGCE Science (masters-level teacher-training), University of East Anglia, Norfolk 2012 - 2007 - BSc Biology, University of Debrecen, Hungary

As above outlined, I have two years experience in teaching Biology full-time, within a Science-specialist High school and College Academy. Whilst this may seem like a short time, I kind of had a knack for it, and turned out to be a natural. I acquired the skills of working as an effective teacher within my teacher-training year rapidly and received only Outstanding reviews throughout both my training and professional years as a teacher. I left teaching due to my wish to pursue further education in MSc Psychology (which I recently graduated from), and eventually a PhD in Psychology, so to become a university professor one day. During my Masters degree, I continued teaching, mostly one-on-one, and I'm continuing tutoring as a job (and hobby), whilst I am taking a gap year between my MSc and PhD studies.

I also have experience working with children who have special needs. And tend to hold the attention of more distractible or “naughty” children. However, in above cases one-on-one lessons may be more preferable over online tutoring.

Tutoring Approach

I’m extremely adaptable to students and their needs, and believe all lessons should be structured around this and not necessarily done via a rigid design that a lesson must follow. I'm particularly good at engaging pupils at their current level and then strategically building up their knowledge in a fun, energetic way. Pupils end up loving the subjects I teach, even if it wasn't a big favourite before :) So whether it’s a lack of confidence within the subject, or an unclear understanding of the concepts, I’m here to help!

A range of starter-main-plenary activities will be included, providing a mix of tasks so students can progress to the best of their abilities, and not get bored (habituated) at the same time. Novel experiences are always a good way to learn, so students will be provided with new tasks each lesson, just to mix it up a bit and help memory formation. In addition, many analogies, and everyday concepts are used when explaining a difficult concept, and pupils are taught to understand it with their own words, whilst still using the appropriate scientific literature, instead of the word-to-word rehearsal of what is in the textbook.
