BA IN COMPARATIVE LITERATURE & LINGUISTICS
Hi there! My name is Shilpa and I am an undergraduate student at Queen Mary University currently studying for a BA in Comparative Literature and Linguistics.
I've achieved A grades in Biology, Chemistry and Psychology A-Levels. Through my own university experience, I have developed many study techniques that have increased my revision efficiency. I now enjoy passing this knowledge on to other students who are in the same position as me!
I have extensive teaching experience built up over a number of years since my time at Secondary School, with experience of teaching students between the ages 5-16.
Whilst studying at a private Secondary Academy, I was a spiritual mentor to the many of the younger classes. During my time at Sixth Form, I continued mentoring whilst also working with two GCSE Science students, one with a hearing impediment and one with learning difficulties; this is where developed the skills of teaching students who may have difficulties accessing the curriculum they are being taught and taught me the importance of making knowledge accessible for all.
I was also a Cub Scout leader and have lead foreign language sessions and history sessions as well as games and activities!
Using the wealth of experience I have gained, I now use my teaching skills to help students access the knowledge they need to achieve the grades they aim for. I quickly and easily build a good rapport with my students through getting to know them. By developing a good relationship with my students, I make them feel comfortable during their tuition sessions which allows them to relax and benefit as much as they can from each session.
As every student learns differently, I find it best to explain concepts in different ways - verbally, with diagrams or videos and with practice exam questions to ensure they fully understand the concepts learnt, and are able to apply them to unfamiliar scenarios. Through high-level questioning, I gauge the student's understanding throughout the session and use this to help them develop their knowledge and understanding on the topic. I also share practice questions from the bank of exam questions I have access to, ranging from low to high demand questions, which sets me apart from other tutors.
