Hi my name is Shim I am a female qualified Secondary and Primary science teacher. I have 10 years experience teaching in all 3 branches of science and have a keen interest in making science as applicable to the lives of students as possible. I studied my PGCE at Oxford Brookes and gained my QTLS (equiv QTS) with the Education and Training Society. I studied Bsc Hon Sport Science at Kingston. I teach all three sciences (biology physics chemistry) up to and including GCSE. I am able to teach all levels from foundation to triple. I work at a large mixed school in Surrey, I currently teach GCSE classes including YR11 and triple science. I am passionate about science, motivated and able to lift the confidence levels of students who struggle with science in general.
I have taught in various grammar and independent schools outside of London. I am highly experienced in teaching practicals, preparing students for exams and mock exams and teaching the up to date curriculum. I currently teach Edexcel, AQA I have experience in OCR and IGCSE. I have access to exam style questions, past papers and I am able to to give instant feedback when completed. I teach to the expectations of the examiner and can teach students in knowing how to answer what the examiner wants. Usually upon completion of a few GCSE questions I am able to instantly identify the weakness that lies within the student based on their responses to the questions. The best part of tutoring I would say is really getting to know the student as a person and watch them grow in confidence. I have been tutoring at the homes of students for over 5 years and all of my students have gained or exceeded their target grades. From wanting to study the sciences at A levels or college to those that just want to pass, I am able to support your child in what ever they want to achieve.
I am passionate, patient, open minded and have a sense of humour. I believe these qualities can help students learn. Usually, students lack the confidence in a particular branch of science and I feel my patient and friendly approach will help lift their confidence. Students learn in different ways, so if one approach does not work I will make sure I will change my approach to fit the student's needs. I always check understanding and can do this in various ways not just using exam questions. My sessions are quite relaxed yet structured, sessions are centred around the students and I am able to adapt to the needs of the child. If you need a tutor that is empathetic yet supportive of your child with SEND, mental health difficulties and dyslexia then I am definitely the tutor your child needs-just read my reviews. Private tutoring is your child's learning space, it's about how they feel and if one approach isn't working; I will try others. A one size fits all approach does not exist.
