I have always had an interest and aptitude in Maths and the Sciences so decided to pursue them at A-level and through my medical degree. With many of my classmates struggling, I often explained concepts and helped to aid the understanding of others, discovering that I enjoyed doing so in the process.
Studying such a heavy degree has taught me how to be light-hearted, respond well to stress and very effectively time manage.
At the age of 15, I volunteered as a teaching assistant where I learnt the components of constructing a lesson. I have also worked in 3 different customer service environments to improve my interpersonal and communication skills, skills that can be utilised to provide quality tuition. I am currently a 1st year medical student. I am subscribed to the DBS Update Service so my DBS certificate can be checked there.
My teaching approach is to explain concepts in simple words without jargon. The main purpose of my teaching is to ensure understanding because, without a good foundation of understanding, it can be difficult to score highly in exams. Memorisation is always the 2nd priority, after understanding. As a medic I have looked into different study approaches to determine the most effective ones. Through my research and personal experience, I have learnt that spaced repetition and active recall are the best methods for long term retention. I can teach my study skills and methods to students as well, after a thorough understanding has been reached.
