I am currently a self employed tutor in having previously worked for a private college in Birmingham and an Inner-City School in the district as well as main stream schools in the local area. Before my teaching career began, I worked in the pharmaceutical industry working in partnership with hospitals, concentrating on auto-immune disease diagnostics. I live in the beautfiul village of Barton Under Needwood and am happy to travel to tutees within the local area. I am very flexible with availability at the moment, having daytime and evening slots available.
Since completing a PGCE course in Chemistry, secondary education in 2005; I have worked with 11-18 year old pupils in various schools and have also gained experience tutoring 16-19 year old pupils at a fee-charging private College in Edgbaston. During these contrasting posts I have gained a valuable insight into helping pupils at both ends of the academic spectrum from weaker students, with English perhaps as an additional language, to higher performing individuals looking to improve on their grades.
Initially I work hard at developing a rapport with pupils and parents alike. Understanding areas a tutee finds difficult and exploring approaches to help them overcome any difficulties indentified. I believe in initial assessment, and on-going target setting and monitoring with feedback given to parents and tutees during every step of the tutition. My own personality is patient, approachable and confident, which I feel really benefits me in this type of work and is reflected in my teaching methods. I am able to develop sound working relations with pupils of all ages and abilities, as well as youngsters with additional needs .
