I am confident and outgoing science teacher.
I enjoy making science accessible and relatable for students while bolstering their confidence in the subject.
I love science personally and enjoy keeping up to date with any new developments in the field. I feel this keeps me motivated in my teaching by being able to bring science to life for students.
I enjoy teaching immensely, priding myself on having great relationships with students both one to one and as a class.
I have worked for 8 years at a large comprehensives school in Sheffield and Derbyshire as well as doing private tuition for seven years of that.
I currently teach to the AQA specification but am also confident teaching to Edexcel and OCR Specifications.
I have been tutoring for 5 of those 7 years and I love the ability it has for improving student confidence.
From September 2024 I will be offering year 12 biology tuition also
Depending on what the student requires, I do the following:
- recap topic knowledge including mini assessments and often homework in the form of exam questions to help build confidence in either biology, chemistry or physics.
- focus on exam technique including practise papers and how to answer all types of questions, showing that all exam questions are the same year on year.
- focus on mark schemes, showing what examiners want students to say to help build their confidence and learn the correct key terms to use in all questions.
- pure knowledge recap- going over all the recall knowledge again to help build confidence that they can answer the 1/2 mark recall questions
- revision techniques- exam questions/ mind maps/ brain dumps/ flash cards
- lots of practice exam questions
- building knowledge into everyday scenarios
depending on student requirements, I start by using lessons from school (my own design/ activities) to go back over knowledge, then build on this by incorporating exam questions where necessary.
I also like to use certain revision materials (provided by me) to work on building confidence and knowledge as part of homework tasks. I can also work on going over lessons in school- if a student is doing a particular topic and is finding it difficult, it is often more beneficial to do this on a one to one basis, spending more time on a lesson than is often given over in a classroom setting.
All students who I have tutored have found these varied methods offer them the best chance of success.
