I graduated from Cambridge University in 2012, having studied Spanish and Russian, and since then, have tutored students (3-18yrs old) in Maths, English and Spanish.
I also work as a documentary filmmaker and photographer.
I am a dedicated, creative and passionate individual who genuinely enjoys teaching, helping my students progress and building up their confidence in the subject.
I've tutored a number of students in Maths and English for 11+ entrance exams, who have got into their desired schools (NLCS, Highgate, Godolphin and Latymer, Haberdashers', Francis Holland, North Bridge House, Queens, Channing, Merchant Taylors, St Helen's and Henrietta Barnet). I have also tutored children ranging from 3-18 yrs in Maths, English and Spanish.
With over 500 hours of teaching experience behind me, I have developed essential skills in creating engaging lessons and tailoring material to meet the needs of my students.

'She was a very nurturing teacher who very quickly identified where my daughter needed to focus, helped her do just and enjoy doing just that. Such skills are very rare to find in one person – they are a gift to teaching. I think that any student lucky enough to find Sonum as their tutor would count themselves very fortunate indeed.' Parent of 11+ English student.
'We have been very pleased with Sonum, and I would strongly recommend her services. In fact, we have been so pleased with her, that we have requested that my younger daughter (aged 7) see her a
couple times a week to provide her support in Year 3.' Parent of 11+ student (Maths, English, Reasoning)
I make a point to get to know the interests of my students, so (where possible) I can create engaging lessons that spark their passion for the subject. I feel this is important, as once a child begins to enjoy the subject, they flourish.
With new students, I usually start by assessing how well they know the subject and where exactly they're facing particular challenges. I then prepare lessons that break these down into manageable pieces, so they can grasp these concepts more easily. I often set homework to consolidate what we've learnt during the tuition or, if this isn't feasible, go over what we've done in the following class to ensure the student has fully understood the method/concept.
