I am a student studying Biology at the University of Oxford - I have a real passion for Biology and science in general which I would love to share with others through my tutoring!
I achieved top grades (9's) in my GCSEs and three A* at A Level (Biology, Chemistry and Art). This did take a lot of hard work, but in this process, I perfected my revision and exam technique. Therefore, I believe I could be a real asset in helping other students perfect not only their understanding of content, but also these important techniques- something which I believe is really important for academic success!
I have previously tutored two Year 10 students in Biology and Chemistry in preparation for mock GCSE exams, with both students receiving no lower than a grade 7 in Chemistry and grade 8s in Biology. This tutoring involved asking the students to highlight which points on their syllabus they were finding the most difficult, and creating 30 minute lessons on each topic, as well as helping them work through any questions they had been set during lessons which they could not understand. Both students reported that these focused lessons were useful in helping them understand topics which they had previously struggled with. I have also worked as a teaching assistant, helping manage groups of 10-15 children aged 6-13 in art lessons, which has helped me improve my time balancing skills within the context of teaching a group.
As I believe that exam technique and understanding how best to revise is key for doing well academically, my lessons will aim to work through content whilst honing in on these skills. This will help my students find methods which work for them which they can then go on and use throughout the rest of their studies. I will also create a space where students are encouraged to ask questions and be curious about the content that they are studying, as from personal experience I have found asking lots of questions is the best way to really come to terms with challenging scientific concepts.
