Hi! My name's Sophie and I'm currently studying for my Bachelor's degree in Fine Art Painting at Brighton Uni. However painting isn't my only passion; Literature and History have always been my favourite subjects. At A Level, I found taking Literature, History and Art in combination really complimented each other well. Studying English and History are so essential to understanding the world around us and becoming active participants in society. However,
I think excelling in these subjects is much easier when you're able to enjoy them!

Tutoring Experience

Having been the first year through the new GCSE system for English and achieving the highest grade, I fully understand the new expectations of the exam boards and have been tutoring a GCSE student in English and History. She initially found the content confusing and would get frustrated as she felt her dyslexia was holding her back. From this, I've learnt it's important to find a more informal way of teaching in order to help the student feel more comfortable- especially if they're at all insecure about the subject.

Tutoring Approach

I believe all students have the capacity to succeed in English given enough time and effort, it is important to me to help them achieve their full potential. Many students get overwhelmed with the amount of content they're expected to know at GCSE (quotes to memorise etc), but I believe it really can be simplified and made much easier to understand and retain. From my time as both a GCSE and A Level student, I've collated many effective resources and methods of learning/revision. Sessions will of course adapt to the student and go at their own pace, revolving around their feedback.
