I live in Stamford, Lincs and have been offering tutoring for about 6 years. I very much enjoy the 1 to 1 nature of tutoring and a sense of achievement when the child makes progress and becomes a more confident learner. Quite often, the extra attention on a weekly basis helps the child to 'click' with the topics that have been causing difficulties.
I have been teaching for over 30 years in a variety of schools teaching children from KS2 to A Level. I currently teach in an independent school.
I would say my approach is fairly relaxed as it important for a tutee to feel comfortable and confident with me as quickly as possible. With a younger child it is extremely important not to create an intimidating situation. I try to make the child feel 'special' and introduce some 'fun' - keep it light if possible. If preparing for an entrance eaxm then I must focus on the assessment objectives, and develop a gradual approach to the tasks which the child will have to perform in order to be successful.
