I am a highly experienced primary teacher and have worked in both the state and private systems. I have experience across the whole primary age range but specialise in Key Stage 2 (aged 7 - 11 years) and upper Key Stage 2 (Year 2, 6-7 years). I can offer tutoring to meet a variety of needs; reinforcement, catch up, extension work and entrance exam preparation for both state and private schools.
I am also qualified to teach piano and singing.

Tutoring Experience

After achieving my B.Ed. degree I started teaching within the state system, teaching across the whole primary subject range. For the last 14 years I have taught in Suffolk’s leading Prep. school, specialising in English. I have regularly attended courses to keep abreast of new developments and use these in my teaching. I have skills in helping children to fill any missing gaps in their English knowledge, whether that be grammar, spelling, creative writing or comprehension skills. I can also support with work set by your child’s teacher and am happy to work alongside any needs identified by your child’s school.

Tutoring Approach

My approach is child centred, aiming to build trust and confidence in their own abilities. Through initial conversation, I will then discuss a plan and way forward to meet your child's specific needs. It is important to identify your child’s learning style, so that activities can be tailored accordingly. I use rewards such as praise, stickers and verbal feedback. Where appropriate, I may set tasks for the child to complete at home to reinforce what has been learnt during the tutoring session.
