My professional career has been varied including teaching both in the UK and abroad, advising farmers within the agricultural sector and most recently working for a charity raising funds for water and education projects in East Africa. I am very much a people person and love seeing individuals develop their skills and talents and spread their wings. I am a long time member of the Local Community Gospel Choir which has opened so many unexpected doors over the years. A recent highlight was singing for the Queen's 90th birthday celebrations. I have lived in cities but the countryside is where my heart is. I love developing my garden, most recently adding a wildlife meadow and pond, and working with my bees. Beekeeping has become a passion, not solely for the honey crop, but because honeybees are such fascinating creatures. I love walking my dogs and travel as much as I can. I have visited over 60 countries so far but my bucket list remains long! I enjoy the flexibility of working from home now and the chance tutoring offers to work one to one.
I have been a teacher in the classroom
During my teaching career I have taught in both Primary and Secondary Schools, having trained originally to teach Middle School students, specializing in Humanities and Music. I have taught Geography and Citizenship up to GCSE level and am passionate about both subjects as I believe they open students minds to the world beyond the classroom and develop life skills that are crucial in today's world. Whilst teaching in Tanzania I co-ordinated the TEFL work for our expatriate students and worked with some adults in the local community.
In the classroom I was known for being a firm but fair teacher and my students always achieved some of their highest grades at GCSE in the subjects I taught. Cake breaks were an vital part of revision classes! I believe humour plays an important role in learning and making lessons relevant and enjoyable. To me, teaching is all about finding the key that unlocks a student's potential.
