I finished my Bachelors degree in Chemistry at the University of Birmingham last year, graduating with a 2:1 (Hons). I previously received an A in my A-Level Biology, along with completing German, Sociology, and, of course, Chemistry A-Levels. I now work as a laboratory technician within a secondary school, so I am extremely familiar with the current science syllabus, especially the practicals! I am a kind, patient and articulate tutor, who is open-minded and LGBT+ friendly - I want you to feel like yourself in our sessions! I am passionate about helping those who are struggling, and I know that the current climate in schools can be rough, especially in the aftermath of COVID, and this can negatively impact a student's mental wellbeing. I want to be able to help get you through this!
As a result of working in a school, I have been DBS-checked and have experience working with young people. Additionally, I help to run the science club for years 7 and 8, as well as the "science masterclass" for years 9 and 10. I therefore have first-hand experience helping students with difficult science concepts. I am currently tutoring an A-Level Biology student, and after just one session their results improved 2 whole grades!
My teaching approach varies greatly depending on the student. People need different approaches, as everyone has a different learning style! I like to make sure I'm aware how best to help a student before I tackle our sessions together. Mind maps, diagrams and analogies are what I tend to lean towards, as well as practice questions, but always make sure that I cater to every students individual needs.
