I started tutoring Maths five years ago during my first year of university and absolutely fell in love with it. I am a patient and charismatic tutor who enjoys working with pupils and helping them to achieve and exceed the full potential. Teaching Maths has always been a passion of mine because many students either struggle with Maths or just don't enjoy it. However for many children the difference is having a tutor who actually cares to explain something as many times as needed. I also studied Mathematics at University for four years and I achieved a first class honours in my Integrated Masters in Mathematics (MMath) degree.
I have been a Maths tutor for the past five years, teaching students between the age of 5-18. I have taught pupils from all different backgrounds and of all different skills and abilities. Over these past five years I have a lot of experience teaching students from KS2 to KS4. However I do have experience tutoring students who are doing their A-Levels as well, I generally specialise in Statistics and Core modules however can tutor Mechanics. As well as having experience helping students improve in Mathematics I also have a lot of experience helping students prepare for examinations and aiding them with proper exam technique to help them gain as much marks as possible.
When tutoring my pupils, I take a very holistic approach that depends on the student. I take into account how my pupils learn, the character of my pupils and their current ability. I am a very patient tutor and I understand that everyone learns differently and at different rates therefore I am happy to go over things as many times as necessary as well as finding different ways to teach topics. I always appreciate and encourage my students to ask me as many questions as they need throughout our lessons to ensure they understand. I feel that keeping lessons engaging is one of the most important things to ensure progression. I always aim to do this by asking my pupils questions, incorporating interactive whiteboards and using different activities depending on the age and ability of my pupils. I also try to encourage healthy discussion to help build a rapport so I can get to know my pupils better and cater my lessons to their needs. I do give my students homework where necessary to ensure that there is plenty of opportunity for independent study outside of our lessons. However I am a tutor that understands that sometimes schools can be overwhelming with homework so I try to suit the amount of homework to the schedule of my pupils as well. I try to approach homework with the idea that it should aid and support pupils rather than overwhelm them as I feel tuition be a safe, supportive space.
