Theepan

I am an Imperial College London graduate with a Masters Degree in Civil Engineering. I am currently working in industry as a Chartered Civil/Structural Engineer, and am offering tuition in Maths and Physics up to A-Level / IB / AP standard, and Geography and Combined Science up to GCSEs.

I have several hundred hours of experience tutoring GCSE & A-Level Maths, Physics, Biology, Chemistry and Geography, and have been very successful in improving my students' grades, and helping them prepare more effectively for their exams and University applications. I also have experience teaching the complete A-Level Maths course to several students who will be taking Maths outside of school. I am proud to have students that have gone on to take places at Harvard, Oxbridge and several Russell Group Universities.

Tutoring Experience

I have tutored many students through GCSE and A-Level in Maths and the Sciences, and have also successfully assisted several students through their University applications. This experience has allowed me to develop a good understanding of current exam board requirements, and adapt my teaching style accordingly. I have experience working with students towards examinations under the AQA, Edexcel, OCR, IGCSE and WJEC exam boards, and students on the American AP (Advanced Placement) programme for the US College Board.

I have tutored undergraduate students at Imperial College as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant for the Department of Civil Engineering, and have taught English at a Civil Engineering firm in Madrid.

I also have experience teaching Maths, Physics Chemistry and Biology to younger students in primary schools as a private tutor, and also as a STEMNET Ambassador.

Tutoring Approach

With subjects such as Maths and Physics, I fully appreciate the need to help students visualise problems before they can solve them. I usually employ analogies to help my students understand concepts, and then test their understanding using exam questions. I also have a good range of resources to provide as homework.

For students preparing for exams, I can help identify gaps in their current understanding by comparing what they know to what is expected of them by the exam board syllabus. I then encourage students to condense what I have taught them into clear and concise revision notes that they can then use to prepare for their exams.
