I’m a professional classical pianist who graduated from royal welsh college of music and drama with a masters degree. I have been teaching piano/music for over 7 years and I’m experienced with teaching all levels up to university levels. I have also studied German, piano performance and music theory in Germany so I speak German fluently too, I have passed the German B2 test and have learnt up to C2 level. I am able to teach in Chinese if needed, but I mainly teach in English.
Throughout my academic journey, I had the opportunity to perform in various international settings, including Germany and China. These experiences not only enriched my musical repertoire but also broadened my cultural horizons, reinforcing my belief in the universality of music as a means of connection.
My dedication to music has not only been evident in my technical proficiency but also in my ability to connect with other musicians, enhancing their performances through harmonious collaboration.
The prospect of supporting the solo and ensemble performance work of the Music Department at your institution resonates deeply with me. I believe that music has the power to inspire, unite, and transcend boundaries, and I am eager to contribute to this transformative experience for your students.
My teaching approach is deeply rooted in a philosophy that emphasizes holistic musical development and the nurturing of individual creativity. It draws from my extensive experience as a pianist and accompanist, as well as my education in world-renowned conservatories and institutions.
Technical Proficiency: I believe in the importance of a solid technical foundation. My students will receive thorough training in piano technique, with a focus on posture, hand position, and finger strength. This ensures that they have the necessary skills to execute even the most challenging pieces with ease and precision.
Musical Interpretation: Music is a language, and I encourage my students to develop their interpretive skills. I guide them in understanding the historical and emotional context of the pieces they perform, helping them to express the composer's intentions while infusing their own personality into their playing.
Collaborative Skills: As an accomplished accompanist, I place a strong emphasis on the art of collaboration. Students will have the opportunity to work with their peers, learning the dynamics of ensemble playing and the importance of listening and responding to fellow musicians.
Creativity and Composition: I encourage my students to not only be interpreters but also creators. I foster their creativity by introducing composition and improvisation into their learning. This allows them to explore their own musical ideas and develop a deeper connection with the music.
Cultural and Historical Understanding: Music is a reflection of culture and history. I provide a comprehensive understanding of different musical traditions and historical periods. This knowledge enriches their interpretations and broadens their musical horizons.
Performance and Confidence: I believe in the power of performance to build confidence and self-expression. I organize recitals and opportunities for my students to showcase their talents, helping them overcome stage fright and become compelling performers.
Tailored Instruction: Every student is unique, and I adapt my teaching to the individual needs and goals of each student. Whether they aspire to be professional musicians or are pursuing music as a hobby, I tailor my approach to ensure they achieve their aspirations.
Nurturing a Lifelong Love for Music: Ultimately, my goal is not just to teach music but to inspire a lifelong love for it. I want my students to carry their passion for music with them, whether they choose to pursue it professionally or as a source of personal joy and fulfillment.
My teaching approach is a reflection of my own journey as a musician, encompassing the technical rigor I've acquired through education, the emotional depth I've developed through performance, and the belief in the transformative power of music. It is my commitment to share these experiences and insights with the next generation of musicians.
