I am an early career researcher with the University of Oxford Faculty of Linguistics, Philology and Phonetics. My current research focusses on issues in formal syntax and semantics, with particular interest in issues relating to bilingualism, the syntax of objects, and the semantics of anaphoric pronouns. Previous work in philosophy includes work in the philosophy of mind and ethics of science.
I have been tutoring Preliminary Grammatical Analysis tutorials for Psychology, Philosophy and Linguistics students at Oxford for the past two terms.
I also have previous experience teaching English as a foreign language with the Intercollegiat Summer English Camps (ISEC) in China, as well as helping tutor fellow students at my sixth form college through the student mentorship scheme.
My tutoring approach is student-focussed, prioritising addressing areas of difficulty with which students are struggling, rather than attempting to cover an entire syllabus. This helps avoid repitition of topics which students already understand, allowing for quick progress in other areas.
I believe strongly in the value of broad and deep education, and will thus generally aim to situate topics addressed in tutorials in a wider theoretical context, allowing students to learn better by understanding not just how a thing works, but why it works the way it does.
My tutorial style is best suited to students with a passion for learning, who enjoy engaging intellectually with difficult problems, and who are willing to be challenged to achieve.
