Having thoroughly enjoyed learning maths as a child, I want to help others to experience good maths teaching to enable them to become confident and assertive adults who can be the best they can and achieve what ever goals they choose to set themselves. I qualified as an accountant, many years ago, before deciding to become a teacher and have since gained many qualifications and experience in mathematics education, Special Educational Needs/Disability (SEND), Child Development and Mental Health in Young People (SEMH), which have helped me to support students of all ages and abilities to achieve or exceed their target grades.
I have been teaching in both primary and secondary schools for over 16 years, and decided to concentrate on teaching mathematics in secondary schools since 2004. I have tutored students in Maths, English and for 11+ Entrance Exams for over 8 years, for a private tutoring company, and have been providing 1-1 tuition since April 2014. I have extensive experience of teaching students at all levels and abilities, from Working Towards level 1 to GCSE higher level, and adult learners.
I prefer that students travel to my home as I have a mini-classroom with computer facilities and access to a wide range of teaching resources. I offer a very flexible and individual approach to tutoring - having identified each student's preferred learning style and individual personality. Students can choose to have private, one-to-one tutoring sessions or work in a small group (with up to 2 other learners present), but they will each receive individual and personalised tuition. My experience as an Associate Assessor, for one of the GCSE examining bodies, enables me to help students avoid making common errors and misconceptions when completing their own examination papers.
