I am a patient, friendly, highly-qualified teacher and AQA GCSE examiner with a passion for English and an excellent record of supporting students to obtain their targets and above.
I offer tuition in all aspects of English to home-educated students, those in primary, secondary and sixth-form/college and adults. I am currently tutoring students from a number of local schools including Millfield, Wells Blue, Crispin, St Dunstan’s, Wells Cathedral, Whitstone, Huish Episcopi Academy, Heathfield and Bridgwater College Academy.
I either tutor students online or see them face to face in my well-equipped tutor room with beautiful, relaxing views across the Somerset levels. Parents are welcome to stay. There are also peaceful walks or a vibrant town with plenty of coffee shops you can visit within 5 minutes.
I am an OFSTED rated ‘outstanding’ teacher, having worked in local secondary schools for eight years before tutoring full-time. I am also a GCSE AQA English examiner so I know exactly what will gain students those crucial marks in their exams.
A lot of my students come to me, throughout key stage 3 and 4 but particularly in Year 10 and Year 11, as they are struggling with English in large classes in school and have lost confidence in their ability. Some students have dropped out of school altogether due to severe anxiety. I find that, within a couple of sessions, they are already feeling happier and more confident because I am able to work at their pace, talking them through their literature set texts and language papers, advising them on exactly what is expected in their answers, answering their questions and giving them lots of encouragement and instant feedback on the writing they do. I love seeing all of my students blossom and realise that they can achieve their target levels and above.
I also enjoy tutoring home educated students; I understand there are a variety of educational philosophies and I am always mindful of these and flexible with my tutoring to suit the needs of each individual child and family.
Some students come to me for support with verbal reasoning skills and English exam papers to get them ready for 11+ and 13+ entrance exams. Verbal reasoning is not taught in school so it is helpful to have a few sessions to understand what is required and speed-up on their answers.
I also offer fun, creative writing lessons for children and adults and poetry workshops.
If your child would benefit from some extra support and a confidence boost, please message me and we can discuss their needs.
‘I cannot recommend Tracy highly enough. She is a fantastic English teacher and a really lovely person. My son was being home educated due to health reasons and had missed a great deal of school. This had left him feeling disengaged and completely lacking in confidence. With Tracy's help not only did he discover a flair for creative writing (having previously dreaded English) but the academic progress he made in a year was truly incredible. The self-confidence he gained as a result couldn't have come at a better time and is testament to Tracy's excellent teaching and genuine interest in his progress and development.’

‘I attended Tracy's poetry evening classes in autumn 2017. Tracy struck the perfect note of being beautifully organised and professional, as well as brimming with warmth, ideas and creativity. Her lessons set a theme, sowed a seed and offered great materials to get our own creative juices flowing. Tracy is immensely supportive and encouraging, and her house offers a truly lovely environment for this work, with the most fabulous, inspiring view across the ever-changing Somerset landscape to Glastonbury tor. A joyous, fun and thought provoking experience, heartily recommended!’
