My name is Umut, and I offer private online lessons in mathematics and physics for students of all ages.
I am originally from Berlin, Germany, and I hold a First Class BSc in Physics with Theoretical Physics from Imperial College London and ranked highly within my cohort. Afterwards, I obtained a masters in mathematical physics (Part III of the mathematical tripos) from the University of Cambridge. Moreover, I was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to study pure mathematics at Stony Brook University in New York. At the moment, I am starting my own research at Humboldt University Berlin, with the goal of obtaining a PhD in mathematical physics and with hopes of one day becoming a university professor.
As such, I will be able to help you if you are currently in primary school and are just getting to know numbers, shapes, and probabilities, and even if you are already preparing for GCSE, A-levels or IB, and are learning about integrals and vectors.
As I studied mathematics and physics at university and regularly ranked at the top of my year, I have a lot of experience with and passion for maths and physics, and have a very thorough understanding of the topics that are covered in school and even at university.
The Nobel laureate RIchard Feynman used to say that you only really understand a topic if you can explain it in simple words, and I fully agree. With my experience, I can explain mathematical topics in a variety of ways, and can always use simple and intuitive examples.
Furthermore, I have experience with the UK university admissions process and got into Imperial College London and the University of Cambridge to study mathematics and physics and I can answer your questions regarding university applications. In particular, I can give you feedback on your personal statement in addition to helping you achieve your target grades.
I gained experience with tutoring mathematics and physics when I tutored students in primary and secondary school while I was in high school.
My lessons are specifically tailored to your needs. It is especially important to me, that you can always openly ask questions if you do not quite understand something. In my eyes, making mistakes is a natural part of learning. And if you have difficulties with a particular type of maths problem, then we can identify this as an opportunity to improve, and I can explain it in a way that makes sense for you personally.
We will adjust the pace of the lessons to suit your needs, to make sure that you really understand everything. If you have a concrete goal, such as improving your grades for the next maths exam, then we can work towards this goal together, and I will prepare an individual set of lessons to improve your understanding. But I can also help with more general questions, for example when you need help with your homework or need alternative explanations for the topics covered in class.
If you book lessons with me, we will revise the topics covered in your maths or physics lessons and use simple words and clear examples, especially if there is a topic that you did not quite understand.
Thinking about an interesting riddle or pondering a difficult puzzle can be a lot of fun, and it is really the same with questions in mathematics and physics. Lessons in school can often make it seem like maths is a rigid subject where all you do is learn rules, but in reality, it can be a lot of fun to think about problems in mathematics and physics.
This playful puzzle-solving approach to mathematics and physics, which I know from my own university and research experience, is what I bring into our lessons. I am convinced that when we have fun, the homework and even the exams become much easier, and ultimately we end up with better grades.
If you are convinced about my qualifications and would like to book a lesson with me, please contact me below. I am looking forward to getting to know you, to share my knowledge with you, and to help you achieve your maths / physics related goals!
