I am currently an English teacher and KS3 curriculum lead working at a school in Lincolnshire, and take pleasure in making learning fun and interactive.
I am a creative, energetic person who is committed to making sure pupils are able to reach their potential, in and out of school. I believe that teaching, and tutoring, is holistic, and that pupils should be taught skills that are applicable in both the exams and day-to-day life.
I enjoy promoting and encouraging high achievement and maximising potential among learners by way of a supportive, patient and knowledgeable approach. I am extremely positive, and promote this attitude in my pupils as well.
I have been teaching since 2012, and have been tutoring for longer. Throughout university I tutored pupils in a secondary school in Camberwell, London, and got the teaching bug then!
I qualified in English through Teach First, so have worked with pupils across the full spectrum of ability and behaviour.
My teaching specialises in KS3 and GCSE, and I am familiar working with EAL, SEN and challenging pupils. I have taught a variety of KS3 curriculum texts and skills, and am familiar with the AQA and Edexcel specifications for GCSE, alongside Cambridge IGCSE. Given the correct information, I will tailor my tutoring to the required approach if required.#/k#
I believe that pupils should have a respectful and motivating relationship with their teacher, so I make sure I tailor my tutoring to the individual.
With each pupil, I will gather the aims for the subject from the pupil and parent, then give a baseline task to assess the level of ability. Once this is done, I will assess the time I have to tutor, and plan accordingly so the required skills and knowledge is firm by the ending period.
Any specific requests will, of course, be taken into consideration, and I ensure that the parents are aware of what I will be teaching each session.
I have already had experience getting on First Tutors getting borderline pupils their 4/5 at GCSE, and have tutored KS3 pupils to get ahead in their lessons at school. I have a range of experience tutoring students who haven't passed GCSE English Language first time. So far, all of my tutees have then gone on to pass!
I am happy to tutor at the pupil's home, or on Skype if availability is limited. I provide all revision materials required to complete my work.
