Three of my students were awarded Kings Scholarships to Eton, with A* in the Science which I was coaching them for.
Altogether I have taught in secondary schools for three years, teaching Physics and Science. I have been a Tutor with First Tutors since 2012 with many satisfied tutees and parents. All in all I have taught and interacted with hundreds of young people, aged from 11 to 18, of all abilities.
I hold a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE, Oxford) and am a member of the General Teaching Council of Scotland.
I have experience teaching or tutoring:
Online tutoring in the UK and abroad

KS3 Science and Maths
GCSE – Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Maths
National 5 Physics, Maths
A level Physics, Chemistry
Scottish Higher Physics, Maths

In my approach to tutoring I bring together my extensive knowledge and experience of different students and learning styles that I have cultivated throughout my career, and the individualised and rigorous approach to study that I have adopted through the Oxford tutorial system.
Having sat on both sides of the table of tuition, I am familiar with the difficulties students encounter with their learning, and how to resolve them. Faithful to my belief that everyone has the capacity to improve in their learning, I am able to guide my students not by simply giving the answers, but by structuring the topic in a way that builds on their existing understanding, whatever stage that may be at, and providing just the right amount of assistance to enable them to work it out for themselves.
In addition, I use my understanding of neuroscience, memory, and learning to enhance the process from week to week. By optimising our studies to fit with the brain’s natural mechanisms, we can ensure that information is consolidated effectively and efficiently.
During my years of working with young people I have encountered hundreds of unique personalities and abilities in my students, including numerous special and additional needs. I have received training for working with many different needs throughout my career, along with the many hours of experience personally working with these students. Please do not be afraid to approach me regarding your child’s needs, and rest assured that they will be met with professionalism.
That is not to say that I have not also had the pleasure of teaching many gifted and talented students from all walks of life, both in the classroom and in their homes as a tutor. I have helped aspiring Physicists with their personal statements, coached students for Oxbridge interviews, written their UCAS references, and successfully prepared applicants for private school admissions, including successful applicants to Cheltenham Ladies College and other schools.
Additionally, I am an experienced online tutor. I firmly believe that it is at least an equal to face-to-face tutoring, and in some ways a superior. In fact it has several advantages, including:
1. Greater interactivity - students feel more comfortable collaborating on my online whiteboard than on physical paper. Images and media more easily incorporated.
2. Lower cost (due to lower overheads, not lower quality) - no travel fees, paper, pens, printing.
3. Permanent record of lessons - online whiteboard available forever and backed up, lesson recorded and downloadable by clients. Now students can review invaluable explanations at their leisure.
My online tutoring setup is the best I have encountered - I have invested heavily in video and audio quality, and have redundancy plans in case of connection problems. Additionally, students can log on at any time to review and make notes.
