Experienced tutor with a Cambridge University English Literature BA.
I have been tutoring since graduating from Cambridge University in 2015. When I'm not tutoring, I work as a Theatre Director.
I enjoy helping my students achieve their full potential. Students who wish to achieve top grades could benefit from my experience in helping with exam technique, as well as my insight into a wide range of literature. My tutoring aims to work alongside the existing teaching being done in classrooms, but working to fill any gaps in understanding and to consolidate different material in order to be on top of the school syllabus.
My lessons are tailored to the individual needs of each student.
I have over 500 hours of one to one tutoring experience.
All of my English Literature A-Level and GCSE students met, or obtained at least one grade higher, than their predictions after tutoring.
My most recent student jumped from Grade 7s in both English Literature and Language, to Grade 9s. Upon receiving her results, she wrote: "Every lesson was so valuable to me and you made me love English!"
In 2022, one of my students jumped from a Grade 6 to Grade in 9 in GCSE English Literature. On results day, he wrote: "Your help was indispensable! I got the grades for every sixth form I was accepted for [...] The progress I made in English thanks to you is stunning."
When preparing to tutor a new pupil, I tailor my approach to their individual needs and concerns. I model my lessons on the Cambridge supervision system which emphasises small group, or often one on one teaching. Such guided teaching is my approach to my own lessons for my students.
I remain up to date with each syllabus and ensure that the course content and exam structure is also understood by the student at the start of our lessons. I teach by deepening the understanding of the topics studied in the hope of instilling a passion and greater confidence in my students. This creates an ideal foundation for more of a focus on exam technique later on.
One of my biggest aims to ensure my pupils grow in confidence in their own abilities in order to exceed their expectations and not only achieve the grades they want, but are well equipped to continue with their education independently thereafter.
I am often in contact with my students over email outside of lessons if ever they have questions; I like to ensure that I am available as a resource at all times. Some of my previous students have remained in contact to ask advice with other pieces of work - something which I enjoy.
