Hello, my name is Zachary and I am an experienced science tutor, having spent years tutoring individuals as well as working in secondary schools and Higher Education.
Having recently, completed my PhD in Toxicology, I now work as a research scientist within the Drug Discovery field. Prior to this, I obtained a First Class BSc in Biochemistry and more recently a Distinction in Toxicology at masters level, both at Russell group universities. During university whilst studying as a full time student, I also found time to volunteer and work throughout my studies.
Whilst a PhD student, part of my time was spent mentoring/tutoring undergraduate students, for example training them in basic techniques commonly used in the laboratory. My research has typically involved cross-disciplinary topics that include not only biology and chemistry but also analytical and environmental sciences.
As a tutor, I am incredibly enthusiastic as I am truly passionate about the subjects I teach, with the overall aim not just to help a student excel academically as shown through tests, but also to give them a wider understanding and appreciation for the subject.
Experience teaching students ranging from GSCE level to masters level in a both formal and voluntary roles. Additional experience working in secondary schools, teaching larger groups of students.
PhD in Toxicology
Distinction in Toxicology Master (MRes)
First class degree in Biochemistry (BSc)
Having tutored multiple different students, at various levels I understand that most benefit from an approach tailored to their learning style. Therefore, my approach focuses on pinpointing their preferred learning style, gaps in their knowledge and improving exam technique. Depending on the student, this may be done through a range of methods such as; discussing real world applications of science, practical examples and case studies or rapid fire exam questions. These methods are some of the ways that students can quickly improve their knowledge of the subject and gain both confidence and independence in approaching exam questions and other assessments in the future.
